They recommend key websites in their subject and help students to make discerning use of the Internet to help find information for coursework, literature reviews or personal research. This learning object looks at the factors influencing the construction of a recording studio. Using text and diagrams, it explores acoustics, the science of controlling the quality of sound in buildings, and describes the main concerns of architectural acoustics. The design and layout of the studio itself is then examined, taking into account the construction of, and materials used for, the floor, doors, walls and windows. Quiz questions test the students' understanding as they proceed through the learning object and an accompanying assessment item consolidates what they have learned. A number of additional built-in tools are available to enhance students' experience of the resource. These include a magnifying glass, a calculator, a colour changer and a notepad.
