<title>Learning to Teach Inclusively OER Videos in Gymnastics</title>
<link>http://dspace.jorum.ac.uk:80/xmlui/handle/123456789/15947</link>
<description>Learning to Teach Inclusively OER Videos in Gymnastics

University of Wolverhampton

At the University of Wolverhampton under the Open Educational Resources Programme, jointly supported by JISC and the HEA, we are developing a multi-media open access module for HE staff - Learning to Teach Inclusively. As part of the project we are sharing series of video clips.&#13;
This series of video clips was selected from a gymnastics session in which the Sports Studies students were developing routines in pairs for a future assessment. The aim of the session was to apply the assessment criteria to their own and others’ performances, to give peer formative feedback so that students had the opportunity to improve their performances before the summative assessment some weeks later.  The clips of the session show the teacher introducing the activity. Subsequent clips show how the different pairs of students work together to perfect their routines, apply the criteria to their own routines, and use flip cameras / mobile phones to video record and playback each other’s routines.  The teacher also offers feedback. &#13;
The students were mostly young able bodied students but there were some exceptions to this. There was a fairly even gender split. White students were in the majority in this session. There were few mixed gender pairs and no pairs from different ethnic backgrounds.  Why is that?  Should the teacher encourage more mixing? What are the pros and cons of engineering more mixed groups in this scenario?  &#13;
This collection of clips also contains a set of interviews with some of the students following the session.  They provide some insights into how they chose their partners, the pros and cons of working with the same people, and the ways in which this subject connects to their lives, aspirations and future careers.&#13;
This collection of clips highlights how students from very different lives and backgrounds can enrich the lives and learning of others.  It also shows ways of making assessment fair and inclusive through well structured, embedded formative opportunities for all.  It also shows how through engaging students in the process of assessment e.g. through application of criteria in peer assessment, they develop a clearer understanding of the standards that teachers apply in summative assessment.  &#13;
Project web-site – www.wlv.ac.uk/teachinclusively e-mail: oer@wlv.ac.uk Videos are in .mp4 format (H.264 compression) and are playable with most media players. If you have any problems with the playback we recommend free open source VLC media player – www.videolan.org or all of our published videos can be viewed online on www.vimeo.com/oer/videos in your browser. Please contact us if you need any help oer@wlv.ac.uk , or fill in Problem Report form - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dEg4a1h6T0ZzenRkVnlIcW1iYXpadHc6MQ

<title>Introduction to Biological Psychology</title>
<link>http://dspace.jorum.ac.uk:80/xmlui/handle/123456789/15829</link>
<description>Introduction to Biological Psychology

University of Derby

Following a comprehensive introduction to the brain, neural structures and neurons, we will investigate how our understanding of brain function informs our understanding of cognition and behaviour. We will consider if parts of our brains sub-serve specialised abilities (e.g. emotion processing, language, memory) or can even be affected by individual differences (e.g. handedness). We will also consider what happens in our brains when we are asleep and we will contemplate whether an explanation for states such as anxiety, schizophrenia and depression can be found in “in our heads”. Finally, we will investigate the effects of genetics, hormones and drugs on behaviour.&#13;
The module therefore addresses the strengths and weaknesses of the reductionist approach as a way of linking physiology, neuroscience, genetics and psychology.

Internet for physics is a tutorial from the Virtual Training Suite. The Virtual Training Suite tutorials aim to help university and college students to develop Internet research skills to assist with their coursework and assignments. The tutorials were written by a national team of UK university or college lecturers and librarians. They recommend key websites in their subject and help students to make discerning use of the Internet to help find information for coursework, literature reviews or personal research. This is an archived version of the tutorial. As of the 1st of August 2011 any further development of the tutorials is being undertaken by TutorPro at http://www.vtstutorials.co.uk

<title>Lancaster excursion 2010: a virtual field visit</title>

<description>Lancaster excursion 2010: a virtual field visit

Clark, Gordon

Lancaster University

This field visit took place in 2010 and focuses on the rural area to the east of the campus of Lancaster University in northern England. The aims are to: * explore recent pressures on rural land use and the ways public policies  have tried to resolve these; * examine specific local examples of general national rural trends; * introduce you to some of the recent planning controversies in the local area.&#13;
This virtual field visit has been designed to give you as close an experience to the outdoors version as is possible. It shows what you would have seen. It asks you the questions the tutor would have asked you. It explains what is on the ground and the processes that created it. So you will get all the academic benefit from this virtual field visit that you would have had if you had actually walked the route. Fieldwork location [54.004994,-2.786236]
